The Star

The night was calm and clear.  Somewhere in the galaxy, a young princess sat brushing her short blonde hair.  She was trying to get ready for bed.  As she was about to get into bed, she heard a loud noise come past her house.  “What is that?” she asked.  She ran up to the window and gasped when she looked out.  Coming past her window was a large starship.  It was painted red and yellow, and had “BGNS1” on it.  The princess was confused, until she saw who the pilot was.  It was Big Nose, a humanoid cat with strikingly bright orange fur.  He owned the biggest starship in all the galaxy, and it ran on stars.

Big Nose flopped back in his chair, his large steel hat falling over his purple eyes, which were already covered by blue disco shades.  He picked up a can of cola, took a drink from it, put it back down and fell asleep.  As he was dozing off, he received a message over the tannoy from his master back on Earth:
“Big Nose, a source has revealed that you have used up all the stars in the galaxy.”
At that, he sat up, his steel hat falling off and rolling across the floor.  He couldn’t believe it!  He’d only been out there for two months yet he’d used ALL the stars?  He had to investigate.  He walked over to his periscope and looked through.  The master had lied…there  was one star left in the galaxy.  And he had to have it.  But how?  Big Nose walked back over to his chair, sat down and began to think…

An hour later, Big Nose was standing atop his starship, holding an awfully long lasso.  In just a few seconds, the star would be his.  The starship was moving closer to the star every second.  Big Nose could hardly wait.

When it was near enough to the star for him to swing the lasso, Big Nose opened it, swung it round and flung it at the star with all his might.  The looped piece of rope fell around the star, and Big Nose tightened it.  He had caught the last star!  He went back into the starship, and fell asleep on the floor…

The next day, Big Nose and the star returned to Earth.  When he got to his house, he trapped the star in a box.  It made a squeaky sound.
“Tell me who you are,” it shrieked.
“I’m your new master!” laughed Big Nose.
The star began to cry.  Its big, sparkling tears filled up the cardboard box, deteriorating it, then the tears filled the room.  Big Nose couldn’t help but feel sorry for the star.  He picked it up, and hugged it.  It felt warm, and seemed to like hugs.
“I’m sorry for what I did, star,” said Big Nose.
“It’s ok,” replied the star.
“I’ll let you go home now,” sighed Big Nose, “but first, I want to name you.”
“Ok,” chuckled the star, “what are you going to call me?”
“Little Nose!” Said Big Nose, grinning.  He lifted up the star, and took him outside.
“Now you carry no home, Little Nose,” Big Nose told his new companion.
“Ok,” replied Little Nose, tearfully.  And he flew up into the sky, where he burst into lots of little star bits.
